The Eluru District Administration has accelerated irrigation canal modernization works to improve water supply for agricultural lands and ensure adequate irrigation during the upcoming cropping season.

The Eluru District Administration, in coordination with the Irrigation Department, has intensified the modernization of major irrigation canals across the district to strengthen water distribution for agriculture. The project includes canal desilting, strengthening embankments, repairing sluice gates, and improving water flow to thousands of acres of farmland.
Heavy machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and earthmovers, has been deployed to remove silt and widen canal sections where necessary. Engineers are also repairing damaged canal walls and installing modern water control structures to reduce water loss and improve irrigation efficiency.
District officials conducted field inspections to review the progress of the project and directed contractors to complete the works before the commencement of the next cultivation season. The modernization initiative is expected to benefit farmers cultivating paddy, maize, sugarcane, and horticultural crops by ensuring timely and uninterrupted water supply.
Farmers expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development works, stating that improved irrigation infrastructure would increase crop productivity, reduce water shortages, and support sustainable farming practices. Officials also encouraged Water User Associations to actively participate in maintaining the canal network after completion of the project.
The Irrigation Department assured that modernization works will continue across additional canals in Eluru District, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving agricultural infrastructure and supporting the farming community.
