The Eluru District Agriculture Department has launched a district-wide Soil Health Card campaign to help farmers understand the nutrient status of their agricultural lands and adopt scientific farming practices. Agriculture officers and field staff are collecting soil samples from villages across the district to assess soil fertility and recommend suitable crop management techniques.
The collected samples are being analyzed in government soil testing laboratories to determine nutrient levels, soil pH, organic carbon content, and micronutrient deficiencies. Based on the test results, farmers will receive Soil Health Cards containing crop-wise fertilizer recommendations and guidance for improving soil quality.
Agriculture experts explained that regular soil testing enables farmers to reduce unnecessary fertilizer usage, lower cultivation costs, improve soil fertility, and increase crop yields. Awareness programs were also conducted to educate farmers about balanced fertilizer application, organic farming, crop rotation, and sustainable agricultural practices.
District officials urged farmers to make use of the free soil testing services provided by the Agriculture Department and emphasized that scientific nutrient management plays a key role in achieving long-term agricultural sustainability.
Farmers welcomed the initiative, stating that the Soil Health Card program would help them make informed decisions regarding fertilizer application and improve the productivity of paddy, maize, pulses, and horticultural crops across Eluru District.
